Hurricane Season Has Begun

June 1st is the annual beginning of Hurricane Season.  Forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) say the Atlantic could see another above-normal hurricane season this year. The Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30, is predicted to have a 45 percent chance of an above-normal season and only a 20 percent chance of a below-normal season. Forecasters predict a 70% probability of 11 to 17 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 5 to 9 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 2 to 4 major hurricanes (winds of 111 mph or higher).
