PSEG Long Island Thunderstorm Update – Aug 24

PSEG Long Island: Storm Update—August 24, 2019 6:00 a.m. ET

  •  PSEG Long Island is reporting 3,791 of its approximately 1.1 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are currently without power.
  • As of 5:00 a.m. Saturday, the company has restored service to approximately 95 percent of the customers affected by the storm.
  • We expect to restore power to the remaining customers by 4 p.m. this afternoon or sooner.  All outstanding jobs have a crew assigned.
  • More than 2,000 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other utility personnel are onsite to address outages
  • Crews have been working day and night, and will continue to work until all power is restored.

For customers affected:

  • PSEG Long Island has set up its mobile command units in the hardest hit areas (the Townships of Babylon and Islip) as community outreach center offering ice, water and snacks, device charging and air conditioning to cool off. The centers will be open today, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Babylon – in the municipal parking lot located on the northeast corner of Little East Neck Road at 7th Avenue in Babylon (across from the CVS)
  • Islip – Gardiner Manor Mall – 834 Sunrise Highway (at Manor Lane) in Bay Shore (by the Old Navy store)

PSEG Long Island: Storm Update—Aug.  23, 2019 11:45 a.m. ET

  • PSEG Long Island is reporting 21,369 of its approximately 1.1 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are currently without service. Hardest hit areas were in the Townships of Islip and Babylon.
  • As of 11:00 a.m., the company has restored service to more than 48,000 of the customers impacted by yesterday’s significant storm.
  • Crews have been deployed and are assessing damage and making repairs. As we continue to assess the damage, estimated restoration times will be refined.
  • Crews are working to restore critical facilities and outages affecting the largest numbers of customers first. Customers are urged to report their outage regardless of whether a neighbor did, as it helps crews more speedily assess damage.
  • PSEG Long Island has called in additional personnel, including tree and line crews, to repair damage and restore outages most efficiently.
  • Some of the approximately 800 additional line and tree trim workers and other crew members have already arrived to assist in the restoration efforts. As additional crews from other areas arrive, they are rapidly being deployed.
  • Electric service crews will continue to work through the night to respond to outages safely and as quickly as possible.

PSEG Long Island: Storm Update—Aug.  23, 2019 9 a.m. ET

  • Strong winds, heavy rain and lightning caused significant damage in Western Suffolk County last night. The storm brought down numerous large trees, branches and wires. Hardest hit areas were  in the Townships of Islip and Babylon.
  • PSEG Long Island is reporting about 23,915 of its approximately 1.1 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are currently without service.
  • As of 8:30 a.m., the company has restored service to more than 40,000 customers out of the more than 67,000 affected by the storm last night.
  • Crews have been deployed and are assessing damage and making repairs. As we continue to assess the damage, estimated restoration times will be refined.
  • Crews are working to restore critical facilities and outages affecting the largest numbers of customers first.
  • PSEG Long Island is calling in additional personnel, including tree and line crews, to repair damage and restore outages.
  • As of 8:30 a.m., approximately 800 additional personnel, including line and tree trim workers, will be on property assisting in the restoration efforts. The workers from other areas will arrive and be rapidly assigned to jobs.
  • Electric service crews will continue to work through the night to respond to outages safely and as quickly as possible.

  • Thursday evening, heavy rain, winds and lightening brought down trees, branches and wires causing outages across Long Island and the Rockaways.  Suffolk County was hit the hardest with more than 36,000 customers affected. Hardest hit areas are in the Towns of Islip and Babylon
  • As of 12 a.m., 40,986 of our 1.1 million customers are affected by the storm.
  • Crews have been deployed and are assessing damages and will begin restoration efforts.  As we continue to assess the damage, restoration times will be refined.
  • Crews will work to restore critical facilities and outages affecting the largest numbers of customers first.
  • PSEG Long Island is calling in additional personnel, including tree and line crews, to repair damage and restore outages.
  • Electric service crews will continue to work through the night to respond to outages safely and as quickly as possible.
